The South Western Alliance Network (SWAN) is a not for profit regional organization comprised of psychiatric consumer survivor groups throughout the South Western Ontario Region. SWAN's Goals Are To: * Identify, discuss and act as a potential resource around issues related to consumer survivors in the south west. * Reduce isolation by encouraging support and friendship among consumer survivor initiatives in the south west. * Encourage and promote self-esteem and mental wellness. * Encourage liaison between consumer survivor initiatives, service providers and government. * Promote awareness and understanding of consumer survivor issues to the general public and service providers. * Provide information, education and resource materials to consumer survivor initiatives. SWAN Reaches It's Goals By: * Quarterly membership meetings around issues and/or concerns and the struggles of psychiatric consumer survivor groups in the South Western Ontario Region. * Promotion of awareness among the community regarding the opinions, needs and rights of psychiatric consumer survivors in the South Western Ontario Region. * Ensuring representation of psychiatric consumer survivors on boards, committees and task forces that deal with issues that affect the psychiatric consumer survivor communities in the Southwest of Ontario. * Keeping informed of mental health reform in the South Western Ontario Region. * Linkage and communication with other regional psychiatric consumer survivor groups throughout South Western Ontario as well as provincially and nationally, including the Ontario Peer Development Initiative. * Networking with Community Agencies, Hospitals, Patient Councils, Provider Groups, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Government.
